In the new-era NHL, the 2005 NHL-NHLPA CBA will continue to have profound effects on contracts for all players and particularly younger players who are subject to the Entry Level System (ELS). Gone are the days of substantial signing bonuses, wide ranging performance bonuses, renegotiation of contracts, etc now in an era of salary caps and 2-way mandatory contracts, etc. The negotiation of a contract, after being drafted or as a free agent, is the single most important aspect that Mike McArthur does for the player and has significant monetary and future development implications. Mike McArthur has written and provides reports on significant features to educate players and parents as clients to ensure they understand the importance of the new regime on their careers. Mike has always been focused on the player's objectives and maintains a positive frame of mind at all times recognizing that the relationship with a players team will become a central part of the foundation upon which to base the player's career. In addition, Mike will canvas other potential opportunities including endorsements, personal appearances and other residual contracts to maximize the earning potential of an athlete. These efforts can be combined with budget planning, strategic financial investment, tax planning, asset and gift allocations, post career pursuits and education and business opportunities. Whether it is handling a contract situation of a drafted or free agent player, or providing a second opinion to existing NHL player, Mike knows that getting the contract you deserve requires the careful combination of a thorough understanding of the CBA, a tactful approach to conducting negotiations, and understanding the market ranges and potential of a player amongst many other factors. |
