Raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Andruw played through Valley East Minor Hockey Association up to the Junior level then joined the Canadian Military in 1988. He played hockey with the Canadian Military where he won 2 championships and during which time he also coached minor hockey and  the woman's hockey team.  Andruw has written for various hockey magazines and websites including: The Pro European Hockey Report, Hockey's Future, Fox Sports, Just Hockey Magazine and Pro Hockey News where he is currently the AHL editor.

Andruw's extensive knowledge of the game, on and off the ice enables him to provide parents and players with sound advice regarding their future within their hockey careers. You can count on Andruw to be straight forward when it comes to the best decisions that can be made for parents/players. He currently resides in Shilo, Manitoba and covers Western Canada / USA.
